I feel rather lucky that this little (actually 12lbs giant) man seems to be a pretty good sleeper. He generally goes 3-4 hours between feedings and a few times at night has given me 5. However, I keep hearing about other peoples babies who, at a similiar age, are sleeping 7-8 hours a night. While I can get 8 hours of sleep total, it is simply not the same as consecutive, so I want to hear your advice. I'm open to anyones suggestions. How do I get this little boy to give his mommy the rest she needs. I can't stay in bed until 10am forever. I'm running out of time to use "recovery" as an excuse for a messy house, no dinner, and being rarely showered. So go ahead, leave a comment and let me know what worked for you, or someone you know. They would be greatly appreciated!

You aren't going to want to hear this but...my advice is there is nothing you can do. Every baby is different and does their own thing - this is the trouble with comparing our kids to others (which we all do of course). My kids were sleeping less than that at this age, if that makes you feel any better! He'll get there on his own time.
As much as I'd like to chalk it up to my skills as a new mom, I'm going to have to say I don't think it's me, it's my baby and I'm really lucky. She's sleeping a lot, and it's awesome. Just in case I did help her get to where she is, I'll let you know what I've done. I followed the principles of babywise--though I was not a crazy strict follower. Basically I feed her, then keep her awake, then lay her down. That's the cycle all day long until her last feeding at night, where I let her fall asleep during/right after eating and then lay her down for the night. I kept her on a pretty strict schedule during the day of 3 hours (almost exactly) until she was a little older and I would let her go 4 between feedings. Then at night, of course, I would let her sleep as long as she would. I heard somewhere that a regular schedule during the day helps them develop a metabolism, which for some reason helps them sleep at night. I always make sure that eating is the last thing she does right before bed so that she's totally full and that way hunger won't wake her up. All that being said, it is still totally hit or miss. Sometimes she'll sleep 11 hours (2 nights ago), then she'll go back to 8, and sometimes she'll still wake up at 3 or 4. I never know. Good luck, and I do think it will definitely get better. I remember feeling like a total zombie and like I would never be a normal functioning human being again, but it happened!
I just hope you and Boston are not keeping John from the sleep he needs.
Your baby is adorable! I have no comment about how to make a child sleep longer, but I wanted to say Congrats. Looking at your pictures are making me super excited to be a mom. I am due at the end of August, so I still have awhile but it will come sooner than I know it.
I have no advice...I will be asking you for some I'm sure! Boston is so cute. I received your baby announcement the other day...SO CUTE!!! I can't wait to come up and see you guys!
About a schedule. Boston is still a wee little baby so dont fret too much. My kids have a great night time schedule(but it didnt start till at least 3 months) but naps and such are still pretty crazy (so i will be waiting for your advice on that). Some things that might help... we keep the nursery really warm with a space heater, we have a "sound machine" for background noice and the babies sleep with a silky blanket in their hands. I think all those help. Boston will sleep longer and longer the older he gets, and it will come so quickly. you can do it, i know how tired you are:), but before you know it he will be sleeping through the night
