Projects.

We have been busy around here.
Between finishing the basement and attempting to spring clean, there are projects around every corner. I decided to walk through the house one room at a time, and start making some of the changes I have been talking/thinking/planning to do for a long time and haven't. Starting with the front room, I guess technically a living room, that we use as a den. This cheap book shelf we bought as newlyweds almost 5 years ago, is hideous. I can't figure out why we have kept it this long! Instead of buying new bookshelf, I decided to make it over. I'm pretty happy with the results.
Before.
After.
I sanded, primed, and painted 99 coats of an off white color. Removed the back and replaced it with bead board that I sanded and stained. It's a big improvement if you ask me, but it's far from perfect. I should have used a low gloss paint instead of satin, and should have gotten a smaller piece of bead board. I also should have probably sealed it all with something, but I haven't, and I'm happy to just be done with it.

The basement is almost ready for dry wall, and if I ever finish my spring cleaning, I'll move on to another big project... have you ever heard of knock off wood? I have just recently been introduced and you should definitely check it out. I'm not crafty at all, as much as I would like to be... but building my own furniture?? That is something I'm interested in! This is first on my list. Seems crazy I know, and maybe it will be a big bust, but I'm going to try!

I'm in total DIY mode. It must be because we are getting that channel for free right now for a promo. All day long I look around my house at things I could improve, then google how to do it myself. Yesterday I watched several You Tube tutorial on how to tile your bathroom floor. Maybe this phase won't last long enough for that attempt... we will see.

I am very impressed with your project. It looks great. I am in a project mode too - but I think that my biggest project this spring will be to simply PURGE (not just reorganize all my stuff). Keep showing us your projects - it's inspiring.

funny cuz Im in a DIY mood these days too...maybe cuz we have no money and its cheaper to DIY. But I don't think Im brave enough to start building shiz outta wood. I gotta work my way up to that hardcore stuff. Right now I just wanna buy cheap furniture at yard sales and then sand it down and paint it pretty to match my house. wish we lived closer so we could go yard sale-ing together...

oh and BTW the bookshelf looks GREAT! And now I am inspired to re-do our bookshelf that we also got as a wedding present that doesn't match any of our other furniture...
